International Strawberry Symposium, announcement:

Dear Colleagues,
We hope you are healthy and that the pandemic is not creating too many problems. We send you few updates/clarifications on the organization of the ISHS – IX International Strawberry Symposium, now ISS2021 (https://www.ishs.org/symposium/690):
The ISS2021 symposium (including tours, school and MACFRUT) is confirmed on May 1-5, 2021. Not being able to predict what will be the COVID-19 situation at that time, the symposium will be organized in person (taking into consideration the security restrictions) and online. This will guarantee a larger participation of experts from all over the world. Complete information on the organization of the hybrid symposium (in person – virtual) will be communicated as soon as possible after the next holiday period.
All abstracts already submitted and selected will be maintained.
If you need to modify the submitted abstract, please send us the new version of the abstract and we will update it on the system.
If you decide to cancel a submitted abstract, please inform us as soon as possible.
If any, we can still accept new abstracts but please submit them as soon as possible at https://www.actahort.org/members/symposiar?nr=690. Deadline for submission: August 31, 2020.
Authors who have submitted abstracts should proceed with the submission of the manuscript as soon as possible. Now we have indicated September 1, 2020, as deadline (https://www.iss2021.com/abstract-submission/) this can be extended but not for a longer period because we aim to publish the Acta Horticulturae symposium proceedings in time by the start of the symposium.
We apologize for this situation, but we think that this is the only solution to guarantee the success of the event and the safety of all participants.
Please do not hesitate to contact us for further information.
Take care. Many thanks.

International Strawberry Symposium, new dates announced

The International Strawberry Symposium’s ninth edition has been postponed until 2021, on 1-5 May. The event will help to bring the scientific community back together after a period of global difficulty.

Rome, 20 March 2020, Given the SARS-CoV-2 emergency, the ninth edition of the International Strawberry Symposium, initially planned for May 2020, will take place in Rimini on 1-5 May 2021.

The decision, after much thought and with no alternatives, wastaken by the event’s organisers–the Marche Polytechnic University, agricultural research council CREA and the International Society for Horticultural Science–to protect the health and safety of all participants.

Around 330 scientific works, presentedby 1,000 authors from countries in every continent, had already been produced for this great convention. Furthermore, 148 talks were already planned–including 15 by invitation and 133 scientific presentations across three parallel sessions–on topics including strawberry genetics and physiology, plant defense, post-harvest, strawberry properties and the fruit’s positive effects on human health.

Bruno Mezzetti, from the Department of Agrarian, Food and Environmental Science at Marche Polytechnic University, comments on behalf of fellow organisers Gianluca Baruzzi of CREA and Maurizio Battino, Department of Specialist Clinical Sciences at Marche Polytechnic University’s Faculty of Medicine: “This was a necessary decision given the health situation. Our primary objective is to guarantee the safety of all participants. We are positive that, once this situation has been overcome, the 2021 event will be a particular success sinceit will be the first opportunity for the entire international strawberry community to reconvene and reorganise following such an unprecedented episode.

In agreement with AIM Group International (the Symposium’s organising secretariat), Palacongressi Rimini, Macfrut, the companies hosting the tours and the sponsors, it has been decided that the programme will be substantially unchanged, but with necessary updates and additions.

In line with the new dates, the programme will start with the pre-tour in South Italy from 29 April to 01 May and then continue with the Symposium itself from 1 to 4 May. Other technical seminars will continue on May 5 as part of Macfrut 2021, before arriving at the post-tour in Northern Italy on May 6 and 7. For all the authors of the scientific papers here are the new deadlines:

  • abstract submission: 1st August 2020
  • abstract modification deadline: 31 August 2020
  • paper submission deadline: 1 September 2020
  • paper modification deadline: 1 December 2020

Registrations remain valid for the new dates. To request a refund, please contact directly the organising secretariat, AIM Group International: iss2021.registration@aimgroup.eu

Dear All,

This is to inform that due to the spread of COVID-19 in Italy and other EU and non EU countries, yesterday we took the dolorous decision to post-pone the ISS2020 symposium. Having it in May 2020 it would mean no people attending and risk for the participants. Soon will be announced the new program for May 2021. At that time hopefully all should be ok and we will be able to show as programmed the Italian strawberry production industry. All abstracts and registrations will be maintained until then. A reimbursement policy will be announced for registered people that prefer to cancel the participation for next year event.

Thanks a lot for your understanding and collaboration.
